What to wear in Rome/Florence in late march and early april?

I’m going there for spring break and I hear the weather is a little crazy. What clothes would be great to bring/ not make me look so tourist-y. I’m 15 by the way.

I’m 20 and have been studying in Rome for the past 2 months. Believe me, you have plenty of options here… just make sure to bring certain staples and you will be fine.

A nice coat- people here will wear a coat even if it’s 65 degrees, as they dress more for the calendar than for the weather. Short leather jackets are everywhere here right now, as well as classic pea coats and trenches in neutral shades of black, grey, navy, dark purple, and white. There are also a lot of shinny, puffy jackets with fur, and those tend to be either dark purple or black.

Skinny jeans- they are very, very in right now. Roman women wear them with flats, boots, heels or converse. I tend to see younger teens (around your age) in skinny jeans with converse ALL the time. Obviously, since you will be doing the “touristy” stuff, I wouldn’t recommend heels!

Leggings- I wear leggings almost everyday here! And the majority of women you see with be wearing them as well. Black leggings are a safe bet, but I see lots of colored or patterned leggings also. The trick, as with everything in Italy, is to keep it neutral.

Skirts- full skirts that fit at the waist as well as edgy mini skirts. If you’re going to do a mini, make sure it isn’t super light… the darker the wash the better. Worn with leggings, of course! Shorts will also work when worn with leggings.

Dresses- another staple. Don’t worry about how short as long as they’re worn with leggings.

Leather Boots- any height, from mid calf to thigh-high. People here love their boots!

Cross-body Bag- nearly everyone here carries their purse “cross body”, as opposed to on the shoulder.

Scarves- light and sheer or heavy and knit… everyone in Rome is wearing scarves right now.

Just remember, whatever you wear: make sure it’s neutral and preferably dark!

The same tips apply to Florence– in fact, Florence is full of Americans (mostly students) so it won’t even matter as much there.
